Music Immersion in New York City

Fall Global Seminar

Program Overview

New York is undeniably the current musical center of the world.  Imagine yourself immersed in this culturally rich city experiencing some of the best and most cutting edge art music performed today.  We will attend a plethora of concerts in a multitude of styles all over the city.  Examples might include: The NY Philharmonic, The Metropolitan Opera, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Julliard School, on/off Broadway productions, The Village Vanguard, and St. John’s Cathedral.  We will study the basics of critical thinking in music and draw historical parallels with visits to New York’s amazing art museums.

Further, New York is a relatively easy trip:  this is a domestic flight, easy public transportation, no passport or visa issues, we speak the language, and generally understand the surface culture. Mostly, this class provides you, as a young musician, a much more affordable and relevant option for a study away experience while providing a necessary introduction to the larger music world.
