Students Abroad - U.S Department of State
U.S. Department of State maintains a website for students who are, or will be, studying abroad. The website contains very helpful information for both students and families regarding safety, emergency situations, and assistance programs for U.S. citizens abroad. We highly recommend that students visit this website prior to departing for their overseas program. Here are a few things to look for on their site:
- Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)
- Country-specific conditions as well as travel warnings
- Emergency Information
Getting a U.S. Passport
How: For complete details on how to apply for a passport, what is needed and how much it costs, visit U.S. Department of State's website.
Do you need a Visa?
Some countries require foreign travelers to obtain a visitor or student visa before they arrive. Your program will provide you with information and documentation for any required visa. If you are coordinating a visa on your own, contact the consulate of the country you plan to visit for specific information about visas.
