This program is designed for students who want to engage with the culture, history, and society of Spain in a dynamic city. Students at any language level can develop their language skills while simultaneously taking courses from a wide variety of subject areas, all of which are offered in English, both during the semester and summer. Explore Madrid and Spanish culture through a diverse selection of courses in international business and management, history and politics, art and art history, and gender studies. This program also features a unique Early Start option focused on grammar and conversation, which is designed to help you adjust to the university setting and prepare you for the semester placement exam.
Known for its innovative art and culture, Spain's capital city boasts an abundance of opportunities for you to live the lifestyle of a true madrileño. Spend your days exploring the magnificent, historic architecture at the Royal Palace, Santa Cruz Palace, and the Telecommunications Palace. Check out the Temple of Debod, a 2,000-year-old gift from the Egyptian government. Enter the Triangle of Art -- the Prado Museum, Reina Sofía Museum, and Thyssen Museum -- and study the artistic trends that have inspired so many, from classical Velázquez, Goya, and El Greco to Picasso and that most shocking of vanguards, Miquel Barcelo.
When the sun goes down in Madrid, the streets spill over with madrileños, all ready to celebrate and flood the dance floors until the wee hours of the morning. Historic buildings on Gran Vía host many of Madrid's cinemas and theaters, and you can find international designers' shops along "The Golden Mile," along with lively rooftop bars like the Hotel ME Penthouse.

Generally, students spend more money while they are abroad than during a typical quarter at SPU. These costs vary per student, and are usually associated with extra in-country and personal travel, eating out, entertainment, and purchasing gifts and souvenirs. If you would like more information about general costs of the items mentioned above and/or general affordability of study abroad, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
