Financial Aid and Scholarships

Good news! Your financial aid will apply to most study abroad programs.  Aid eligibility will generally apply as follows:

SPU Faculty-led and Partner Programs

Program fees for these programs are paid to SPU. Financial aid may include federal and state aid (except work study), as well as some SPU institutional aid (see specific programs for details). For SPU Faculty-led and Partner programs, a $300 study abroad administrative fee is payable online after approval to confirm placement.

Provider Programs

Students pay the provider or foreign institution for all tuition and program fees. Students may use their federal and state financial aid (except work study), but do not receive any SPU financial aid or merit scholarships during their period abroad. A $350 study abroad administrative fee will be charged to your SPU account once you are approved to study abroad with a provider program.*

*Beginning with Summer 2018 Program Provider applications and all terms after, students will pay a $50 application fee and then a $300 study abroad administrative fee will be charged to their SPU account once they are approved to study abroad with their selected program.

Your financial aid is normally applied to your study abroad program, but it is very important for you to check before applying to any program to determine eligibility or to increase the amount of loans you already receive. For questions concerning financial aid eligibility, please contact Student Financial Services or stop by Demaray Hall 10. Non-SPU students should contact the financial aid office at their home school to determine financial aid eligibility.
